From a child born and raised in the back woods of Kentucky to now. Ruth Ann has possessed the gift of making people smile and lifting their spirits. Young black women born in her generation, especially in the rural areas, were expected to learn to love God with all their heart, can fruits and vegetables, cook, make quilts and be a good housekeeper. Ruth Ann perfected herself in the first three, and then spent the rest of her time daydreaming, weaving fairy tales, writing poetry, playing dress up and acting out plays under the old cedar tree in her grandparent’s front yard. Little did she know that God was molding her and getting her ready for her ministry.
Although Ruth Ann can testify to the fact that she has been through many tests, trials, rocks, and reels. Some how, “No”, she says not somehow, but by the grace and mercy of God she has always managed to land on her feet, with a smile on her face. Sometimes the wounds were still dripping pain she would have the feeling of necessity that she should try to console others around her.
Ruth Ann says, “We are living in an age and in a world where there is plenty of trouble, heartache and tears. Smiles and uplifted spirits are few. There are many dark nights. Sometimes all it takes to spark a little hope is an encouraging word, a hug, a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to hear, from someone who has been through the storm. Not always coming out on top; but coming out still standing.
All who know her and have known her from youth say’s she has always been bold and expressive. This does not change when it comes to worshipping and praising God. Seems like all of her life some force has had a hand in putting her front of an audience to entertain and inspire and giving her that gift of giving others that “peaceful easy feeling when they talk to her.
Ruth Ann has always enjoyed performing in skits, plays, and known for her natural improvisation skills. She has been writing plays, poetry, essays, speeches, short stories, not to mention notes to those who may cross her path in a negative way. When God moved her to another level, it was no surprise to her fans and followers around her. She was the one who could not figure why all the fuss? She had been doing this all of her life. To any and all who would listen. Even the chickens, dogs and cats on her grandparents farm, who she would feed the families left-over’s to get them to sit still and watch her perform when she was a child.
However, she realized that God wanted her to do more than what she had been doing. He showed her there was a world of souls suffering and lost needing both spiritual and emotional up lifting.
Ruth Ann did not share these private conversations and anyone, she just pondered them in her heart believing that eventually it would be revealed. And it was. Several years ago, a well-known Evangelist Dr. Johnny L. James, better known, as the Walking Bible was visiting guest speaker at the church Ruth Ann attended. After observing her worship and praise throughout the service, when she approached him to shake his hand, “He looked straight at me and said, “You have a ministry of inspiration. Put away your note pad and pen. Let God tell you where He wants you to go and what He wants you to say.” From that day forward, she asked the Lord, if this is true and this is my ministry, please do not limit it to sitting in a building Wednesday night after Wednesday night, Sunday after Sunday. Send me to those who need “inspiring” the most. The Lord being a man of His word is doing just that. He is sending her into places she would have never dreamed of, inspiring her to write messages and record CD’s for lifting up the heads of the weary, worn and sad. When she gets them looking up and smiling then she points them toward the one who is responsible for her smile. Jesus Christ.
